Owee Terms of Service

Owee is provided by Kevin Maklouf ("we", "us"). These terms incorporate the Privacy Policy. By using Owee (the "Service") you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be 13 or older, or the applicable age in your country, to use Owee.
2. Your data and content
- The pools, expenses, settlements, notes, and other content you create in Owee are yours. Owee syncs this content to our cloud backend so it works across devices and with the people you split with. A local cache may also be stored on your device for speed and offline use.
- If you choose to link a bank or card, Owee uses Plaid to import account metadata and transactions you can choose to split. Bank linking is optional.
- If you choose to scan a receipt with AI, Owee sends the receipt image to a service provider to extract merchant, total, and line-item details. You must review the draft before it affects balances.
- You're responsible for the content you put into Owee and for how you use it, including recording amounts accurately and only adding other people's information that you're entitled to use.
3. What Owee is - and isn't
Owee is a tracking and accounting tool. It records who owes whom and suggests settlements. It does not move money. Real-world settlements happen through external services that you initiate yourself.
We are not a money transmitter, a bank, a fiduciary, or a financial institution. We do not hold funds. Balances and suggested settlements shown in the app are informational only and may contain errors, so review them before acting on them.
4. Acceptable use
- Do not use the Service to defraud anyone or to facilitate illegal activity.
- Do not reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code.
- Do not interfere with or disrupt the app's integrity or performance.
5. Paid features
Owee v1 is free and does not include in-app purchases. Owee may offer optional paid features in a future version, such as an Owee Plus subscription with additional bank/card accounts and monthly AI receipt scans, or one-time paid AI receipt scan credits. If paid features are introduced, pricing will be shown in the app before purchase. Billing and refunds will be handled by the applicable app store under its policies.
6. Availability and changes
We aim for a reliable app but don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may release updates that add, change, or remove features.
7. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We make no representations about the accuracy of computed balances or suggested settlements.
8. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (B) $100. WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the Service or your violation of these terms.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. Account → Delete account permanently erases your Owee account and personal data from our cloud and signs you out. Balances you shared with others may remain in those shared pools as an anonymized participant so your friends' records stay intact. Deleting only the app removes the app from your device but does not delete your cloud account.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California.
12. Changes to these terms
We'll post changes here and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
